Shawntel Hebert is a Partner at Taylor English Duma LLP in the Employment and Labor Relations practice group. Shawntel is an experienced attorney partnering with in-house counsel and human resources professionals to prevent, correct and advise on day-to-day employment matters and also vigorously defend employment litigation.
Spanning nearly a decade, Shawntel’s career as an employment litigator began at a boutique employment law firm in Atlanta. She joined Taylor English’s sprawling practice in 2009 and has experience representing clients in both state and federal courts as well as in various alternative dispute resolution forums. Shawntel litigates in defense of companies against claims relating to race, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, religious and disability discrimination as well as harassment, retaliation and wrongful discharge. Her practice includes a variety of employment law litigation, including representing Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) carriers on a local and regional level.
Shawntel was a 2006 recipient of law school scholarships from both Gate City Bar Association and the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys. Shawntel has been active with the Gate City Bar Association since graduating law school and served in numerous roles, including Hall of Fame Gala Chair (2012); Member-At-Large (2014); Vice President (2015); and President-Elect (2016). She has also served as a Chair of Gate City Bar’s Summer Associate Program for the past four years, which is a staple program providing minority rising 3Ls with legal clerkships at partner law firms and legal departments, and she finds great joy in supporting the next generation of lawyers. Additionally, Shawntel is a proud member of the National Employment Law Council (NELC) and the YLD Labor & Employment Law Section. Shawntel has been selected by Super Lawyers as one of Georgia’s Rising Stars from 2013 to 2016 and was named to the Lawyers of Color Hotlist, Southern Region in 2014. Most recently, Shawntel has been chosen for the Outstanding Atlanta Class of 2016, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing the service, leadership and achievements of Atlanta young professionals.
A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Shawntel graduated summa cum laude from her beloved undergraduate alma mater, Howard University, in 2004 and received her juris doctorate degree from Emory University School of Law in 2007. She serves on the Young Alumni Steering Committee for Emory Law and is an active member of the Church of Christ at Bouldercrest.
