Judge Cynthia C. Adams was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal on January 31, 2017, and elected by her community the following year, to serve as a Superior Court Judge in the Douglas Judicial Circuit. Judge Adams is the first female and first African American to serve as a judge in Douglas County on the state or superior court level and is the first African American elected to serve as a judicial officer in Douglas County’s history.
As a teenager in 1993, Judge Adams was selected as an intern in the first class of the Atlanta Bar Association’s Summer Law Internship Program for high school students. Preparing to enter the 30th year of this program, Judge Adams continues to serve the program as a mentor and an intern host.
In addition to her regular court docket, Judge Adams also presides over the Douglas County Mental Health Court (HOPE Court) and established the Douglas County Parental Accountability Court.
Judge Adams is a graduate of Oakwood College (now Oakwood University) and the University of Georgia School of Law. She is a member of the Atlanta Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church. She is married to Dwayne Adams, also an attorney and partner at his law firm. They live in Douglasville with their two children.
Judge Adams serves her community as a 2017 graduate of Leadership Douglas and is a member of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys, the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers, Gate City Bar Association, Douglas County Bar Association, Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, Douglas County Rotary, and the Junior League of Douglas County. She previously served on the Board of the Douglas County Cultural Arts Council and the Good Samaritan Center in Douglas County.
